Hip Avascular Necrosis (AVN), also known as osteonecrosis, is a condition where blood supply to the femoral head (the ball of the hip joint) is compromised, leading to bone death and eventual collapse of the joint surface. This painful condition can affect people of all ages but is most common in young adults. Early diagnosis is critical, as timely intervention can save the hip joint from severe degeneration and arthritis.
Treatment for Hip AVN depends on the stage of the disease. In early stages, our focus is on joint-preserving surgeries such as core decompression, sometimes augmented with bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) or bone grafting to stimulate healing and revascularization. For more advanced stages where the femoral head has collapsed, total hip replacement may be the most effective solution to eliminate pain and restore function.
At our clinic, Dr. Varun Shelke utilizes state-of-the-art MRI and imaging techniques to detect AVN at its earliest onset. We understand the impact this condition can have on mobility and quality of life. Our comprehensive care plan involves a detailed discussion of treatment options, personalized surgical planning, and dedicated rehabilitation to ensure the best possible outcome for your hip health.
